Chinatown

Since moving to New York, I've made weekly visits to Chinatown — to eat, to shop, to wander. These works are an attempt to capture the people I encounter there: their likenesses, but also the time and place of each encounter. Taken together, they form a kind of mental map of a community that has fascinated me since the day I arrived. In building that map, I've come to understand something about what makes a community — the rhythms, the faces, the way people occupy a place over time.
